Trail Talk - Walking in the Rain

Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. ~ Roger Miller
April Weather
I've been eager to get my gardens cleaned up for spring, so eager that I run out between showers and invariably wind up working in the rain. And I guess working' isn't the right word, I admit it, I am playing in the garden and loving the rain. The birds don't seem to mind and neither do I, especially when the drops are warm and life is popping up all around me.
How do you respond to the rain? Do you run to get out of it? Do you dress for the weather, and enjoy it. Or do you welcome it as you are and get soaked to the skin? Everyone has their own perspective and I am sure it depends on where you are going when it happens and what kind of rain is coming down.
Life's Weather
As we all know, life happens just like rain. I wonder if the way we handle rain predicts how we handle life? When I know a storm is coming, I dig out my raincoat and an umbrella before I start a journey. And in life, I prepare for a known stressor by clearing what I can in my schedule, building in time, eating healthier, getting extra sleep and making sure my clothes are set out for the day.
But what about the unexpected storms in life? How can we prepare?. .Imagine if we could create the figurative umbrella, rainboots, and raincoat and always have them ready in our lives! Well, we can!
Preparing for Life's Weather
Remove limiting beliefs (catastrophizing and dread)
Are you sugar, will you melt in the rain?
Will your world end because of this storm?
Did you recover from other storms you faced other storms in your life?
Learn from past storms (preparations, resilience, perspective)
Did you learn anything from the last time you got soaked in the rain?
Look at the past storms in your life, what learnings can you take from them?
Do you have any learning or tools that will help you through future storms?
Build up your resources (raincoat, umbrella, anchors and lifejackets)
Boats sometime anchor down in a storm, what are your resource anchors?
Use resources like reframing, to see the storm from another perspective.
Envision the positive outcome and set goals to master what is in your control.

I can recall times in my life when I was caught in the rain like it was yesterday. They do have a way of making an impact on you in more ways than one. It isn't just getting soaked (although that is a big part of it) You really feel alive when you're caught in bad weather. I'm not sure there's much that we can do to prepare ourselves other than accept in advance that these events will happen. You can help us all with that.
